Acupuncture
A wide variety of health issues are treated positively with Acupuncture Treatments. Human beings are bio-energetic systems. When the balance of this energy is disturbed, pain or disease will result. Acupuncture treatments correct this balance by stimulating the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Illness occurs when too much, or too little, “Qi” (energy) exists within the energetic pathways of the body that lead to the organs, muscles and nerves. Qi can also stagnate and block the pathways, causing pain and discomfort.
Acupuncture Treatments involve the use of very fine hair-like pre-sterilized, disposable needles. After diagnosing an individual’s condition, needles are placed on the energetic pathways to stimulate restoration of the smooth, harmonious flow of Qi. When used to treat both symptoms and the underlying condition, Acupuncture can be a powerful medicinal choice. Depending upon an individual’s needs, other variations of Acupuncture may also be utilized. One example of this is “Cupping.” Cupping is a therapy where suction is created in a cup, which is then applied to the body. It draws the skin up, around, and into the cup. This technique helps unblock stagnant energy and brings fresh blood up to the area, improving circulation.
We’ll discuss your individual situation with you and explain the various techniques that are recommended.
Chinese Herbs
Chinese Herbs consist of almost anything natural found on the earth – from roots, to animal parts to minerals. However, most herbs are of plant origin. An Herbal Formula is designed to address the origin of a problem. An Herbalist may fashion a custom formula consisting of between one and upwards of twenty herbs for each patient. Herbs have Chinese medicinal properties when used individually and when combined with other herbs, assume different properties. Each Formula is modified for the specific needs of the patient during each stage of illness. As a condition changes and improves, the Herbal Prescription is modified until the desired health outcome is achieved.
At New Freedom Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, prepared patent formulas and tinctured formulas are prescribed and raw herbal prescriptions are available. In cases of pain or physical trauma, a topical may also be incorporated.
Cupping
Cupping is a Traditional Chinese Medical Treatment. Similar in purpose to Acupuncture, it attempts to stimulate the body’s meridians, enhance the flow of Qi, and restore the body’s balance.
Cupping uses suction to draw blood to a specific point on your body. This allows the circulation of that blood to heal certain organs and body parts related to “Meridian Lines” that run along your neck, legs, hands, and back. This 3000 year-old therapy has been known by many different names with each technique being slightly different.
The warmth and pressure of the Cupping device creates a vacuum, promoting the flow of blood and Qi—also known as Chi (Chinese for “natural energy from the Universe”). This helps to decrease swelling, reduce fever, ease pain in the lower back and extremities, ease stomach aches, vomiting, diarrhea, asthma, and lung disease, among others. “Wet Cupping” is a lesser-known style of this procedure thought to relieve certain conditions. With Wet Cupping, the skin is pierced before the cup is placed over the area, allowing a small amount of blood to collect. This is also known as blood-letting and can be applied alongside the regular Cupping process.
